The Travel Whispers Blogger Challenge 2016!

Best of the Blog, Reflection and Stories, Suitcase Living By December, 2016 Tags: , 19 Comments

With the last days of 2016 steadily ticking by it’s time to stop and reflect on the year that has been.  The ups, the downs, the places and the faces; the things that made us laugh or cry and all the things that inspired that deep set wanderlust for travel.

2016 has all been about ‘home’ for me.  It’s been time to go back to the basics, shed materialistic things and experience life living out of a suitcase (ok, ok, two suitcases.  And a carry on, but who’s counting?).  I’ve had a lot of personal landmark moments over these last twelve months; I’ve lived in three different states, paid off credit card debt and then impulse booked a one way international flight for next year.

I also started this blog.

So what exactly is The Travel Whispers Blogger Challenge?

This is a discussion that comes up rather frequently within my community. Sometimes someone new moves into the staff village and you can’t help but judge what they are carrying around with them. Other times, you are that person and you just know that your physical baggage is a mess.

So how do you keep the clutter down (but your spirits up) when you live out of a suitcase?

Top 10 Long Distance Travel Songs

These are the songs of life lovers and experience chasers; those roaming to quench their wanderlust. They should make you want to pack your bags and hit the road; or maybe grab your phone to close great distances with a call. Either way, they are inspiring, mood setting and heartening and while classics like Highway to Hell will always hold a place in my heart, as will We Gotta Get out of this Place (for great escapes from horrible locations) they didn’t quite make the list. I’ve tried to focus on songs from the last ten years with a blend of mainstream and indie so hopefully there will be something for everyone.

If you’re planning a trip to Japan (or have already been) then names like Shinjuku kōen (kōen is ‘park’ in Japanese), Ueno kōen and Meiji Jingū (shrine) are no doubt familiar to you. While these places are quite famous, not many people initially put a trip to a park into their travel itinerary. Which is why I thought that I’d take a moment to introduce you to my all-time favourite park, not only in Tokyo, but in the world.

Yoyogi kōen.
